Course Expectations and Guidelines
2014 - 2015
Physical Education is a very important part of the educational process. There have been many studies done on the relationship between physical education and academic performance. Those studies have shown that students who are active and involved in physical education are much more likely to succeed in school. In a study done by Active Living Research, it was determined that “kids who are physically active and fit are likely to have stronger academic performance.” (activelivingresearch.org) Because of studies like this and our experiences with physical education, we believe that the time you spend in physical education class is some of the most valuable time you will spend in school.
One of the goals of Medfield Public Schools is to create life-long learners. In terms of physical education, this means that we would like to offer you a wide variety of activities, help you to develop some proficiency in the skills needed to enjoy these activities, and hope that you will continue to be involved in many of these activities for the rest of your life.
Grading for each individual unit will be based on the following criteria:
1.) Effort – How hard do you work at improving your proficiency during physical education class? Is your mental and physical energy at a level that will positively influence learning?
2.) Participation – Are you prepared for class and do you take part in all of the class activities?
3.) Application of Skills – Are you able to demonstrate the skills effectively in the activities?
4.) Attitude – Is your conduct respectful? Are you a positive addition to the class? Do you interact and get along with fellow classmates?
5.) Understanding concepts/tactics – Are you able to understand and/or perform concepts and tactics.
Below is a list of some of the most significant expectations that we have of students.
1.) All students must change for class. This means that you must have clothes other than what you have worn to school on that day and change into them for class.
2.) Be on time. Students must arrive to class on time. Tardiness will affect your grade and it may be a cause for disciplinary action.
3.) All students will participate in the daily warm-up. Students will be given a “Warrior Warm-up” each day and they will perform that warm-up each day.
